The Glenn Highway: Aug 28 and 29

Subject: Hicks Creek Roadhouse and Campground

Comments: It was getting late enough in the day that I was starting to think about dinner and a place to camp for the night. I saw the old red truck as I rounded a bend and then saw the Hicks Creek Roadhouse. Outside it were parked several bikes and so I figured I'd stop in and ask the bikers where a good place to camp would be. As it turns out the group of bikers was from Anchorage, and they were all members of the Christian Motorcycle Association in Anchorage, and they were there at Hicks Creek for a camping weekend. After visiting with the guys a while, I decided to camp there with them for the night, and I had a fine meal of "pasta with chile lime sauce and prawns" at the Roadhouse before setting up my camp. Also while I was there in the Roadhouse, Hal Farrar, a local bush pilot and singer came in and entertained us with poetry and song for quite a good while.

The next morning several of the guys dropped by my camp for coffee, including Hal, who had come back to go to church with the guys. And before they left they asked me if I'd like to have my bike blessed, and I said "Sure!", and a blessing was asked for my bike and prayers for my continued safe journey were said. Thank you guys.
