Whittier Tunnel Entrance

and Gwennies Restaurant, Anchorage: Aug 21

Comments: I didn't take many pictures today once we got off the M/V Aurora. I did get a shot of the entrance to the Whittier Tunnel and the next photo is looking to the right of me as I waited in line to enter the tunnel. I think we waited about 20 minutes before being cleared for the tunnel (its a one way tunnel and motor vehicles share it with trains that use the same small space. Bikers have to ride in the center between the tracks). I was pleased that the attendant put me at the front of the line, and they made sure I got all the way through safely (2.5 miles) before letting the other vehicles enter.

The remaining pictures on this page were taken at Gwennies Restaurant in Anchorage that evening. John and I met a friend of mine there for Saturday dinner. Gwennies is famous for it's Alaska Cuisine and famous for the huge portions of food they put on a plate. I went there more than once during my Alaska visit. Thanks Mike, for turning us on to Gwennies.

Missing from these pictures are pictures of where we stayed in Anchorage and pictures of the beautiful ride along Turnagain Arm, after exiting the Whittier Tunnel and heading to Anchorage. (Motels in Anchorage tend to be fairly high dollar, so the places we ended up staying there really weren't worth photographing).
