Subject: Yakutat to Valdez

Comments: We were in open ocean the rest of this day, and would arrive at Valdez in the middle of the night. I slept in my cabin during part of the daytime this day, and stayed up late so I could stand on the decks as we approached Valdez in the dark (it didn't get really dark up this far north until 11:00pm each day).
The captain turned on two bright search beams, pointed at the water directly in front of the ship during the last leg of the trip, in order to avoid icebergs on our approach to the Valdez harbor.
